P/$ rate stands at P42.58/$1

The peso exchange rate stands at P42.58 to the US dollar, the closing rate last Friday at the Philippine Dealing & Exchange Corp. (PDEx). The weighted average rate stands at P42.611.

 

Industry sector posts 7.4% growth

Total gross revenue index of industries grew by 7.4 percent in the first quarter of 2011.

The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) said this was lower than the 11.9 percent growth registered in the previous year, as all of the sectors except transportation and communications reported slower growths during the quarter.

Real estate paced down to a growth of 14.8 percent from 15.6 percent; manufacturing grew by 12.3 percent from 23.9 percent, trade lowered its growth to 5.5 percent from 8.4 percent and finance grew by 7.5 percent from 10.7 percent. (EHL)

 

C.I.A.P. opens window in regions

The Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP) has moved to improve access and delivery of its services to the construction sector by opening a window in the regions.

The CIAP Window was piloted in the Department of Trade and Industry’s Region X office. The agency is set to open another window in Cebu City.

The newly opened CIAP Window in Davao City accepts and processes the following services namely, a) contractors licensing and registration: b) registration of overseas contractors; c) contract dispute resolution; and d) contractors performance evaluation system. (BCM)

 

Smart Bro’s Plug-it is faster

Speed tests conducted by independent professional engineering service provider NESIC Philippines, Inc. (NPI) show that the Smart Bro Plug-It has faster connection speeds compared to the competition.

The tests which were conducted in 100 locations around the country revealed that Smart Bro outperformed the competition 100% of the time in terms of average download speeds.

According to NESIC’s results, there is an average difference of 0.74Mbps between Smart Bro and its rival with 26 areas reflecting a 1Mbps discrepancy or greater. (EHL)
